Residents in Leeds and Birmingham are the biggest recyclers in Britain according to new research. A survey by public sector union GMB found Leeds Council recycled 17.3% of its household waste, making it the top council for tonnage recycled in 2005-06. Birmingham took second place recycling 12% of household waste in the same period.
