Most local government managers now see redundancy as inevitable, the Chartered Management Institute has found. Analysis of calls coming in to a specially set up redundancy hotline, combined with the views of local government sector managers, show that managers no longer fear the axe of redundancy – most now expect it. The study also found 25% of people in local government say they are updating their CVs in readiness for redundancy, and that 55% have worked in an organisation where others have been made redundant. On a brighter note, 75% say there is less stigma attached to redundancy than during the 1990s, and 57% believe the current economic climate is the ‘perfect opportunity to reassess my career'.
