Housing secretary Steve Reed has defended the Government's failure to assess how many social homes are needed.

In a tense exchange at the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee yesterday, member Lewis Cocking, said it was ‘shocking' that the Government did not have a specific tenure target within its pledge to build 1.5 million homes this Parliament.
