'Regional finance' plea

The Bank of England should create regional banks to channel cash to small businesses and boost local economic growth, a new report has claimed.

The Bank of England (BoE) should create regional banks – modelled on the German system – to channel cash to small businesses and boost local economic growth, a new report has claimed.

The Leeds City Council-led Commission on the Future of Local Government argues the BoE's quantitative easing programme – which has transferred newly-created money to national banks and financial institutions – would be more effective if it injected cash directly to small businesses through regional banks.
