A review of councils' resources is needed, if they are to take the lead in the event of a flood in their communities, according to a government expert. In the final part of the Pitt report, published on Wednesday, Sir Michael Pitt said local authorities must take a ‘strong leadership role' both in relation to ‘development control decisions, and tackling issues on the ground'. To achieve this, however, the report warns that local authorities will need to undergo a ‘technical renaissance.' Sir Michael cited ‘information sharing and engagement' as being essential to an effective emergency response.
