As Surrey prepares for unitarisation county council leader Tim Oliver tells Ann McGauran politics must stay out of the transition process and he remains optimistic that the 2027 timetable for the election of a mayor will be hit.

When it comes to delivering the next stage of devolution, Surrey is in the queue of areas determined to ensure more decisions are made locally.

While the area is not technically in England's devolution priority programme (DPP), the area continues to see itself as at the vanguard of the next round of devolution.
