Four new commissioners have joined the Audit Commission Board, bolstering the number of overseers at the spending watchdog in the run-up to its abolition.

Whitehall education mandarin, Ruth Thompson; Andrea Sutcliffe, who is chief executive for the Social Care Institute for Excellence; senior Royal Mail manager, Nicola Scrivings; and Liberal Democrat local government commissioner, Adrian Collett, have replaced a number of commissioners whose terms of office ended in December 2012.
