An independent report into awarding a Castlereagh BC contract to the lover of former Northern Ireland Unionist politician, Iris Robinson, has concluded the council complied with all necessary rules and regulations.

The report by consultants Deloitte was presented to Castlereagh councillors last week, and found no evidence of wrongdoing when the authority handed a café lease contract to Kirk McCambley in 2008 – while Mrs Robinson was still a local councillor. Mrs Robinson is the wife of current Northern Ireland first minister, Peter Robinson. The pair were investigated for potential financial impropriety relating to her affair, and she stood down from her elected roles in 2010.
