Camden LBC forced a mental health patient into bankruptcy for non-payment of council tax, even though she was unable to conduct her own affairs, the local government ombudsman has found. A report by Tony Redmond on 18 July accuses Camden of ‘maladministration, causing injustice' after the authority failed to consult the un-named resident's social services team about her vulnerable state, prior to taking action. ‘[Officials] did not adequately record what checks they made and did not make any checks with the social care side of the council, which would have shown that bankruptcy was not an adequate recovery method,' the report states.
