Residents of an east London tower block this week lost their High Court battle to prevent defence chiefs stationing surface-to-air missiles on the roof of their building during the Olympic Games.

Lawyers representing the residents accused defence secretary Philip Hammond of contravening the European Convention on Human Rights, which they claimed protected an individual's right to a private life and peaceful enjoyment of their home.
