Thousands of residents could save a combined £5.5m, following the UK's largest-ever local authority collective energy switching auction – part of the tide of council energy schemes launched in the last year. 

Taking place on 29 January, the auction joined Peterborough City Council's ‘Ready to switch?' scheme, involving 13 councils, with Greater Manchester's community switching scheme, bringing together 56,000 households and 26 councils in total.
