Response following riots spares fate of Youth Justice Board

The Government has abandoned plans to axe the Youth Justice Board – following strong public and political opposition.

The Government has abandoned plans to axe the Youth Justice Board (YJB) – which works to prevent children and young people under the age of 18 committing crime – following strong public and political opposition.

Under the Government's public bodies rationalisation programme – dubbed the ‘bonfire of the quangos' – the organisation was set for abolition alongside 192 arm's length bodies, including the Audit Commission and the Design Council.
