The English Regions Network (ERN) has called on the Government to let major regional decisions still be made by council leaders. ERN and South East Regional Assembly chairman, Cllr Keith Mitchell, said major decisions on the economy, housing, transport and public spending should stay with the regional assemblies, and not moved to regional development agencies. ‘Giving lead responsibility to councillor-led forums would be a much more open, accountable and effective way of delivering the new single regional strategy,' said Cllr Mitchell.
