Call for rethink on 'Boris Island'

A London Assembly member and Richmond LBC councillor urges the Government to reject calls to build a third runway at Heathrow.

A London Assembly member and Richmond LBC councillor has urged the Government to reject calls by the House of Commons' transport committee to build a third runway at Heathrow.

The transport committee report rejected calls for a new airport east of London in a report published on 10 May and instead recommended expanding Heathrow with a third runway. The proposed airport to the east of London has frequently been dubbed 'Boris island' because it has been backed by the London mayor, Boris Johnson. Speaking to The MJ, Cllr Tony Arbour, who represents the 2M group of local authorities, said: 'I think the Government should think twice about the recommendations from the transport committee.
