Riot relief pledged

Oil-giant Shell has pledged £500,000 to the High Street Fund, launched by leading companies to work with the Mayor of London and the capital’s local authorities to give immediate relief to small businesses harmed by the August riots.

Oil-giant Shell has pledged £500,000 to the High Street Fund, launched by leading companies to work with the Mayor of London and the capital's local authorities to give immediate relief to small businesses harmed by the August riots.

Kick-started with an initial half-million-pound commitment by the Mayor of London, the London boroughs of Barnet, Bexley, Croydon, Merton, Redbridge and Tower Hamlets have donated £30,000 each to the fund. Richmond, Haringey, Enfield and the City of London have contributed £50,000 each.
