Rise in deaths in England and Wales in 2015

An unexpected rise in the number of deaths in England and Wales last year was due to an increase in dementia and respiratory diseases such as flu among older people, said the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

An unexpected rise in the number of deaths in England and Wales last year was due to an increase in dementia and respiratory diseases such as flu among older people, said the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The peak happened in the early months of 2015 when flu was widespread across the country, said the ONS.
