Rivals to fight cuts

Six former Labour councillors at Glasgow City Council are launching a rival party for this May’s local elections.

Six former Labour councillors at Glasgow City Council are launching a rival party for this May's local elections, promising a platform of ‘no cuts, no privatisation and no council redundancies'.

The break-away councillors have applied to register as Glasgow Labour with the Electoral Commission. It follows an internal rebellion by the group over a budget vote on 9 February which was narrowly won by the ruling Labour Party by 40-38. A Scottish Labour source said the six councillors – Stephen Dornan, Tommy Morrison, Anne Marie Miller, Andy Muir, William O'Rourke and Ruth Black – had been deselected for the forthcoming elections, prior to their rebellion.
