River deep, feelings high

The complex challenge of pollution in the River Wye and its tributaries called for a partnership approach and a new charter will become a touchstone for decision-making, says Elissa Swinglehurst.

There is national recognition of the environmental degradation that has affected one of the jewels in Herefordshire's crown, the River Wye, and the tributaries that flow into it.

The River Wye was named the nation's favourite river. For Herefordshire, it is more than a river. It is part of who and what we are. It holds our memories, waters our crops, shapes our landscape and provides our recreation. It is beloved and special. It is central to our sense of place.
