The new chief executive of St Edmundsbury BC looks set to be Geoff Rivers, the husband of former top officer, Deborah Cadman. In an unusual twist, Mr Rivers, who is married to Ms Cadman and currently chief executive at nearby South Norfolk DC, has been recommended as the new top officer. His appointment went before a full council meeting on Tuesday, after The MJ went to press. ‘This is certainly unusual,' said St Edmundsbury BC leader, John Griffiths. ‘But Mr Rivers was chosen on his own merits from a strong and competitive list of candidates, and I am confident that he is the right person to take St Edmundsbury forward.' The chief executive of Aberdeenshire Council, Alan Campbell, is stepping down after a career of 40 years in local government. Mr Campbell's decision follows the recent publication of a positive best value report from Audit Scotland. He is expected to leave the council in October and work to recruit his successor will begin immediately. ‘I am very satisfied with the findings of the best value report, which demonstrate that I will be leaving Aberdeenshire Council in a very good position, with sound financial management, a clear vision for the future, and a committed and motivated workforce,' said Mr Campbell. The recruitment of the new chief executive at Aberdeen City Council has also started. Cotswold DC chief executive, Bob Austin, has announced he will be moving over to be the top officer at Tewkesbury BC. Mr Austin has been the interim chief executive at Tewkesbury for the last 15 months, dividing his time between the two authorities. He will leave Costwold DC on 18 July to take up his new post.
