Concern has been raised in Dorset that spending cuts could undermine efforts by highways chiefs to deal with a backlog of road maintenance work.
A report released last week by the Audit Commission called for greater collaboration between councils to drive down the cost of maintenance work, in light of rising traffic levels and severe winter weather.
