Merton LBC is contemplating changing its name, after the Queen admitted being confused over its location.

New council leader, David Williams, has said he is prepared to consider a name change for the borough, which includes Wimbledon. When the Queen visited some time ago, she asked: ‘Where is Merton, exactly? Everyone knows where Wimbledon is.' Her Majesty overlooked the fact that Britain's great naval hero Lord Nelson lived at Merton Place, from which he departed to fight the Battle of Trafalgar.
