Failing council Inverclyde is to undergo a senior management cull to clear the way for improvement. The council, whose leadership was branded ‘weak and rudderless’ by Audit Scotland in 2005, has advertised four corporate director posts at £90,000-a-year to replace the five current directors’ positions with salaries of £70,000. The three remaining directors – Gerry Malone, Neil Graham and Jim Sutherland will have to apply for the new posts, accept a leaving deal, or bid for a lower job. Plans are also in the pipeline to scale down heads of service from 21 to 17. The changes will be implemented towards the end of this year.
