Council leaders have urged ministers to hand rural areas greater freedom over their local economies, amid evidence of snowballing rural support for new developments and house-building.
Ahead of the Government's ‘Rural Statement 2012', due to be delivered by new environment secretary Owen Paterson on 12 September, the Local Government Association called on the Coalition to make swift and clear decisions about the future of rural areas.
