A pilot scheme to boost skills among local authority administrative staff has led to measurable savings. The Service excellence projects trialled in the North East produced efficiency gains of an average £6,600 per participant, and 100% success rate of NVQ achievement. The North East Centre of Excellence programme gave local government staff the chance to work towards NVQ level 2 in Business Improvement Techniques.
