Making the school run safer

More than three quarters of School Streets in London are either breaking even or generating income – and the scheme is popular with the public, says Jemima Hartshorn.

In 2017 I, along with other parents on maternity leave, became concerned about the alarming levels of toxic air pollution on our streets, and so I founded Mums for Lungs. Since then, we've been campaigning to clean up dirty air so our children can breathe cleaner air and face fewer health risks, because the air we breathe can stunt lungs, cause and exacerbate asthma and is linked to cancer and many other preventable illnesses. 

What started out as a few parents who knew each other in South London has turned into a nationwide network of people from all walks of life who are concerned about toxic air.
