New figures released by the Scottish Government have shown a rise in the amount of municipal waste being recycled. Recycling data for last year showed that 31.2% of waste was now being recycled or composted, a 4.1% rise from the previous year. Scottish environment secretary, Richard Lochhead, said the figures proved councils ‘are on the right track for improving Scotland's recycling performances'. ‘We need to make it as easy as possible for ordinary people to recycle, and local authorities have a major role to play,' added Mr Lochhead.
