Scottish councils are scrambling to fill their tops posts after Midlothian Council and North Ayrshire Council became the fourth and fifth councils to announce their chief executives are to quit. North Ayrshire Council's chief executive, Ian Snodgrass, is to retire in August after five years in the post and 40 years in local government. Mr Snodgrass said: ‘We now need to see a new chief executive with the vision to lead the council over the next five to 10 years.' Trevor Muir, chief executive of Midlothian Council, is to leave in July. Dumfries and Galloway Council's head, Phil Jones, will leave in July, Stirling Council's Keith Yates in May and Shetland Islands Council's Morgan Goodlad in May.
