Scottish councils have warned the country's government will need to give them more cash, if they are to match a minister's ambition to keep rural schools open.

Argyll and Bute Council and the Western Isles Council both urged Scotland's nationalist education minister, Mike Russell, to provide more funds, after he wrote to all 32 of the country's local authorities asking them to respect a moratorium on school closures.
