Britain's £5bn-a-year scrap industry is finally facing tougher regulation as part of a government crackdown on metal theft – following a long-running campaign by the LGA.
Home office minister, Lord Henley, announced last week that regulation was ‘likely' – and could include people selling scrap metal being required to register and face identity checks, while cash payments could be banned.
