Local government faces at least another decade of austerity – which could even extend into the middle of the century – council chiefs have been told.
Addressing The MJ's inaugural Future Forum on 24 May, Paul Johnson, director at the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), said the economy would not return to its pre-recession peak until the beginning of 2014, at the earliest.
