SEND costs pushing capital's councils to bankruptcy

London Councils has claimed almost half of the capital’s local authorities are at risk of bankruptcy due to insufficient special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) funding.

London Councils has claimed almost half of the capital's local authorities are at risk of bankruptcy due to insufficient special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) funding.

The umbrella organisation said, with grants to boroughs for supporting children and young people with SEND not keeping pace with pressures, 16 of London's 33 councils were in danger of having to issue a section 114 notice.
