Outsourcing firm Serco has announced they have £1bn worth contracts at preferred bidder stage. It announced preliminary results for 2007 last week, which included a record number of international contracts. The order book stood at £14.7bn at a new record of £14.7bn at the end of the year and £27bn of further opportunities identified. Serco has signed a £265m deal with Glasgow City Council to set up a new joint venture company. ‘2007 was an excellent year,' said Serco Group chief executive Christopher Hyman. ‘We were awarded significant contracts in existing markets and used skills developed in the UK to build positions in markets such as Australian home affairs and Middle Eastern transport.' Serco has also signed a £140m environmental services contract with Hammersmith and Fulham LBC. The contract is for seven years with an option to extend for a further seven and will start in May. ‘We look forward to delivering a high quality service which enhances the local environment for residents,' said Mr Hyman.
