Five years on services are not ready for a Covid re-run

More than five years on from the start of the Covid pandemic, lockdown feels more like fever dream than reality and that shared history hangs over not just the nation, but the globe.

Despite living with permanent scars – the lost loved ones, the damaged economy, mental and physical changes, the social impact – it seems little more than a distant memory that barely touches our day-to-day lives, yet it has changed everything.
