The Welsh Assembly has announced a final settlement of £3.7bn for local government for 2007-8. The settlement includes an extra £11.6m for schools and a further £500,000 for foster care allowances. Welsh local government minister, Sue Essex, said: ‘This settlement is a good and reasonable deal for both local government and council taxpayers.'
