The first sex-change mayor in Britain has been sworn as the civic leader of Cambridge City Council. Jenny Bailey, who was born a man, has been a councillor since 2002, and was deputy mayor last year. Her partner, former councillor, Jennifer Liddle, who also underwent a sex swap, will be mayoress. Before becoming a councillor, she worked in radio engineering. ‘I entered local politics because I believe in public service and because I wanted to make a contribution to the wonderful city we live in,' said Cllr Bailey. ‘I am honoured that my fellow councillors have now decided to choose me to be their mayor.'
