Shire counties are failing to match the economic growth of urban areas due to poor public transport and problems with digital infrastructure, a report published today has found.
The County Councils Network (CCN) study said that during the 10 years to 2023, economies in county and rural areas grew by 14.7% in real terms compared with 17.2% across England as a whole – equivalent to £19bn of lost economic growth.
