Analysts at Experian this week warned town centre and business improvement district managers must develop a detailed understanding of the people and the places they represent, to select the right local retail strategy.

Experian reported that each strategy must be designed for the specific town or city – but might include common tactics such as supporting local business through favourable rents and rates, avoiding charity shop clustering, bookmakers and fast food outlets, and supporting local markets.
