Short term gain could lead to long term pain

A lack of investment in adult social care prevention even for a short period of time will have long-term consequences in a very tough environment, warns Adele Taylor

With recent news headlines detailing the fact that adult social care spending is increasing like never before, it was inevitable this would also lead to questions about whether prevention will be the one place where funding is more vulnerable as we all have to protect resources for statutory services. 

That is the reality for much of what we do, where a choice between meeting our statutory minimum for now and providing what we might need to ensure long-term sustainability has to be made. It's the balance of knowing you have to manage what's right in front of you but also knowing that short-term gain could lead to longer-term pain.
