Britain's first joint chief executive, Ian Lowrie, gave a musical farewell to councillors and colleagues last week at his retirement bash.

Mr Lowrie, who is also a member of local government ‘supergroup', The Soul Aces, performed his own version of the Simon and Garfunkel classic The Boxer, and was ably backed by his successor, Peter Latham, on guitar.
