'Single authority' for Limerick

The Irish minister for environment and local government, Phil Hogan, has announced plans to replace Limerick City Council and Limerick CC with a single authority after the 2014 local elections.

The Irish minister for environment and local government, Phil Hogan, has announced plans to replace Limerick City Council and Limerick CC with a single authority after the 2014 local elections.

He added that there would be directly-elected mayors in Dublin and other major councils in 2014, and said possible future reform options might end the long-standing tradition where every one of the republic's 26 counties had at least one full local authority.
