Skills shortages and single status are on the agenda for Scottish public sector HR managers attending their annual conference in St Andrews this week. COSLA president, Pat Watters, is one of the speakers at the event, organised by the Society of Personnel Directors Scotland. The society also elects its next president, Iris Wylie, head of HR at North Lanarkshire Council since 1999. Like their counterparts south of the border, the 32 Scottish councils face a much tighter budget round and efficiency targets, with more emphasis on shared services. Ms Wylie said councils needed to boost their image to attract younger entrants. ‘We now have the chance to think and act more creatively about how we can influence the new skills for the future,' she said.
