It's actually something I have been talking about for sometime, but the matter hit the front page of the MJ this week with Steve Bundred talking about the potential for financial armageddon in local government.A good headline & conceivable I guess, but unlikely.I do believe that there are a large number of smaller councils who face severe financial constraint in this & future years who may get to the autumn & find they have not made the savings they expected to.The equally important question is - who is going to act as the eyes & ears for the sector & wheel in the appropriate assistance when required?Under sector led improvement & development it ought to be just that - sector led - not a top down approach which could lead to another audit commission.
