Information is power, as the ancient saying goes. Well, that was certainly the case last week when more than five million people tried to access the new website – police.uk – to discover crime statistics for their local areas.
This initiative is part of a wider process of transparency started by the previous Government with the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act, and continued with this Government with its commitment for public sector organisations to publish all expenditure above £500.
