Local government should get realistic about the power of social media networks, and harness new technologies to manage demand for key services, a council chief has claimed.

Commenting on a report into local government's use of social media, Social media and the city, issued by business provider IBM, Coventry City Council chief executive Martin Reeves said long-term budget pressures were forcing leaders to radically redefine the relationship between authorities and the people they served.
