Scotland's largest local authority is making use of IT to drive efficiency savings. Capita Software Services' new council tax and benefits software has generated more than £300,000 in savings for 400 people living in Glasgow. The new software was able to check whether Glasgow City Council's 600,000 residents were receiving the council tax benefits they were entitled to, in just two weeks. The authority's £1m contract with Capita will run over a five-year period. ‘The benefits of a faster and more efficient process are already being passed on to the citizen,' said council programme manager, Janice Timoney.
