At last month's Solace Summit, I didn't expect the most discussed topic to be the name ‘Solace'. Yet, delegates repeatedly remarked on how apt and resonant it feels today.
Formed in 1974 as the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives, Solace began as a body for chief executives. Over the past 25 years however, it has evolved far beyond that remit. Today, fewer than a quarter of our 2,000 members are chief executives and our network spans every stage of a local government career.
