Software giant Microsoft is offering councils the chance to win their share of £18m worth of training in a competition, alongside SOLACE. Bidders will have to tell judges how they would use training vouchers to improve the lives of local people. The competition will be launched at the SOLACE annual conference next week. Head of skills at Microsoft UK, Stephen Uden, said 77% of jobs now required computer skills. He added: ‘We aim to help half-a-million people into jobs in areas that will lead the economic recovery.'
