Solutions to stop homelessness

Some councils are exploring more innovative ways of delivering the sustainable use of temporary accommodation, including through prevention, Test, Learn and Grow approaches, and digital transformation. Jack Shaw reports.

Temporary accommodation (TA) has become one of the clearest signs of policy failure in England. More than 100,000 households are trapped in TA, including 165,000 children, putting into sharp relief the centrality of tackling homelessness to the Government's ‘moral mission' to tackle child poverty.

TA now costs English authorities more than £1bn a year – more than double the figure six years ago.
