Somerset could reduce member numbers to save £40,000 a year

Somerset CC has proposed cutting councillor numbers from 58 to 55, in a move that would save at least £40,000 annually.

Somerset CC has proposed cutting councillor numbers from 58 to 55, in a recasting of the county's political map that would save at least £40,000 annually.

The external review, submitted at the request of the Local Government Boundary Commission to England (LGBCE), calls for the changes to take effect from the next council elections in May 2013.
