Council leaders in the South East say there can be no more new homes without investing in infrastructure. It comes as the South East plan, produced by the regional assembly, is to be considered by an independent panel of experts. The plan suggests a larger proportion of new homes should be affordable and wants major investment in rail, public transport, roads, water supply, schools and hospitals. South East county leaders spokesman, Cllr Henry Smith, said: ‘The South East plan is the right one for the region but there can be no new homes without a firm government commitment to invest in the necessary infrastructure.’ It will come under public scrutiny at an examination in public in November. The London Assembly’s planning committee chairman has also called for more affordable housing in London which suits local needs, such as three and four-bedroomed homes.
